The Bridal Trial Experience
A bridal trial with Merton is more than just makeup — it’s a relaxed, collaborative session focused entirely on you. It’s a chance to talk through your vision, your dress, your personal style, and how you want to feel on the day. Held in the comfort of your home or chosen location, the trial gives you space to explore and refine a look that feels authentic and confident to you.
With over two decades of experience in fashion and bridal, Merton is a versatile artist, working seamlessly across natural, soft glam, and glam. His approach is always tailored — enhancing your features while staying true to your personal style, ensuring your makeup feels just as good in person as it looks in photographs.
During your trial, you’ll explore different options and refine the details together. Merton will guide you through skin prep, brow grooming, tanning suggestions, and touch-up advice, so nothing feels uncertain leading up to the day.
What sets Merton apart is his strong artistic background in the arts — painting and drawing — paired with a meticulous eye for detail. This foundation allows him to analyse facial structure with precision and create balanced, flattering looks across a range of styles, from understated and fresh to polished and elevated.
You can view Merton’s work on real clients in the before-and-after gallery, showcasing genuine transformations and a broad range of bridal looks tailored to each client.
The focus of your trial is simple: for you to feel comfortable, understood, and confident in the makeup you’ll wear on your wedding day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need a Hair or Makeup Trial?
Yes. Merton strongly recommends a trial for all brides. It ensures your wedding-day look aligns perfectly with your vision and allows time to refine details. It’s also an opportunity for us to get to know each other and collaborate on your ideal hair or makeup style.
What Do I Need for My Makeup or Hair Trial?
Depending on your service, please prepare the following:
Arrive with clean, product-free hair or skin.
Lightly exfoliate and moisturise your skin the night before. A consistent skincare routine is best.
If you’ll be tanning for your wedding, please have a tan for your trial as well. A tan can significantly change the way makeup sits and photographs.
Opt for a natural, sun-kissed tan.
Apply tan to your body only — not your face. Merton will match your foundation to your body tone.
Avoid lash extensions, lash lifts, or brow lamination before the trial, as these can alter results. Merton prefers to begin with eye makeup and finish with lashes for the most accurate preview.
For hair services, wash and dry your hair the night before or two nights before, depending on your hair’s natural oiliness.
Bring inspiration images that reflect your preferred style. These should ideally be from Merton’s portfolio or similar in aesthetic.
Please also bring images of how you typically do your own makeup to help Merton understand your everyday preferences.
If you’re a brunette, look for hairstyle references featuring brunettes with a similar cut, as blonde styles can appear different due to hair texture and colour.
Bring your hair extensions if you plan to use them.
For the wedding day, please organise a table near soft natural light (not direct sunlight).
